Tom Jones, DNR large lake specialist, said the number of zebra mussels in Mille Lacs is not as high as they thought it would be. The prediction for Mille Lacs this year had been in the thousands per square foot of water. Zebra mussels can reach a density upwards of 10,000 per square foot.

Come learn more about this great water road that links Mille Lacs Lake to the Mississippi. Join the Friends of the Rum River for the 5th annual Rum River Cleanup. Meet from 9:30-10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, rain or shine, for a half hour introduction to the cultural and geological history of this upper-most stretch of the Rum River, at the Mille Lacs Kathio State Park Interpretive Center.
