Clarilyn Nevon Anderson, also known as Carla Anderson, 55, was charged with five counts of theft after a long investigation indicated that she had stolen about $209,000 from Teals Market in Isle.
According to a complaint filed in Mille Lacs County District Court, on or about March 9, 2010, Isle police were alerted to reports of an employee theft from the market. Isle police officer Noah Buecksler met with owner Roger Teal, district manager Andrea Teal and store manager Rhonda Skoog, who said it was discovered that Anderson, who was the bookkeeper at Teals, had been taking money for several years. Andrea Teal, in a review of the accounts receivable line for the Isle Teals Market reported the receivable account was noticeably out of proportion when compared to other stores in the Teals chain. She contacted the store manager, Skoog, who in turn called Anderson. According to the complaint, Anderson told Skoog she had taken money from the store by inflating the balance on the charge accounts receivable line and taking the corresponding inflated amount in cash. Skoog called Andrea Teal and reported that Anderson admitted to taking money from the store. According to the complaint, it was believed that the theft began at the end of 2006 or the beginning of 2007. Anderson provided a statement to Officer Buecksler stating that she was employed as the bookkeeper at the Isle Teals Market location. The complaint stated Anderson said she was “in a financial predicament and that she did a stupid by entering a larger amount of charges than were accurate and that doing so enabled her to take money for herself. ...” It was determined the amount taken from Teals Market in Isle from Oct. 2, 2007, to March 7, 2010, was $209,360.05. Anderson is charged with one count of theft of property or services, value in excess of $35,000 with a maximum penalty of 20 years and/or $100,000 and four counts of theft of property or services value in excess of $5,000 with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
